Museo del Tessuto E-COMMERCE is here!
Design, craftsmanship, sustainability and participation are the key pillars of the newly opened Textile Museum e-shop.
The Museo del Tessuto e-commerce is indeed a project dedicated to design, craftsmanship, sustainability, and the promotion of the city of Prato and Tuscany. The creative communities involved include artisans, designers and small businesses - mainly local - who make sustainability their mission.
The e-shop features i) products co-created by MdT, designers and artisans, these products are the result of numerous co-creation sessions with partners, inspired by the Museum's collection or made using discarded fabrics provided by our institution. ii) products co-selected by the museum and designers and artisans iii) chosen by other Tuscan museums: Museo del Tessuto has worked with other Tuscan museums to enrich the offer of its e-shop, tell the story of regional craftsmanship and sustainable design and provide an online sales platform and economic sustainability to other cultural institutions in the area.
All the products on sale make use of natural, 'circular' materials to give them a second life, further qualifying the work of those involved in their production.
Specifically, products are designed using natural raw materials such as cotton, wool and cashmere; recycled materials - resources already used, collected and processed to be renewed -; upcycling techniques. The majority of them are hand-made and unique pieces.
Within the RECHARGE project, Museo del Tessuto’s objective was precisely to conceive and test innovative and collaborative practices to make museum e-commerce tools capable of generating widespread value with and for some professional communities, as well as for museum users. The shop's values and objectives were collaboratively identified by Museo del Tessuto, some Tuscan museums, artisans, designers and small businesses in special co-design sessions; the products proposed are the result of a long co-creation process together with them.
