MAO aims to become a central hub for community connection, knowledge exchange, and co-creation. This welcoming environment encourages open thinking, questioning, idea testing, experimentation, and debate. The project's innovative model demonstrates how museums, through collaboration with organizations and individuals, can expand their programs, better fulfill their public roles, address social challenges, and make public goods more accessible.
In 2023, MAO launched the first edition of "Museum in the Community," utilizing a participatory co-creation model to co-ideate and co-create three real environment space installations. These installations became core exhibits of the community exhibition in MAO park. Building on this success, "Museum in the Community II" is planned for 2024. This next edition will leverage the knowledge, potential, partnerships, and connections established in the first edition.
The aim is to explore the potential of public organizations in creating conditions for well-being, enabling access to public goods, and involving vulnerable groups and intergenerational collaboration to overcome societal challenges. Through the exhibition, the production of a new set of real environment space installations, and a series of events, MAO seeks to demonstrate how joint efforts, interdisciplinary cooperation, community knowledge integration, experience exchange, and reciprocal public involvement can generate positive societal changes.
With this approach, MAO aspires to show how museums can evolve from static exhibition spaces into dynamic, interactive centers that foster societal well-being and innovation. By collaborating with local organizations and engaging the community, MAO is dedicated to making a meaningful impact on Ljubljana and beyond.
